assessment of fire riska I tried to find information on making a risk assessment of fire and went to the site opsi.gov. it seems that if 5 or fewer people are employed it doesn't need one in place. im slightly dyslexic and can be read in error, could someone tell me if my assumptions are correct please.
we have a small garage sale / car in the UK and do not employ anyone.
thank you very much: o}
This means that you have to do one, but you did not promulgate it. If you care at all about your life, you do good, and review each year. It is a fact that assessments of fire risks to save lives. A fire at a well known hotel about 2 years ago in which three people died FRA had not - and before someone yells "arson," a good FRA considers arson.
Hi Berni,
A fire risk assessment is a requirement in the premises of most commercial and industrial in the UK, no matter how many people are employed at work, but if you employ five or more persons, the risk assessment must be recorded and its findings should be shared with your employees. A risk assessment is still needed to cover the common areas in a residential block of flats if definitiely be required on your small garage / car sales business, but if you have no employees there is not necessary for you to save it.
It is an offense not to have a risk of fire and companies are being prosecuted for violation of fire safety order, eg Shell International Ltd was fined a record £ 300,000 to £ 45,000 costs by June this year because it had not adopted the findings of its 2003 risk assessment, nor had she reviewed regularly evaluate its headquarters building in London . It is the largest fine to date, but the courts are also to imprison people for offenses about fire safety, for example, an owner of Tottenham was jailed for four months in October this year last for serious violations of the order.
More information on the assessment of fire risks can be found in guides published by the government and available for free download

In your case, as a small garage car sales / business risk assessment is not a complex problem (that is, if you do the normal tasks of a small garage and habitually exercises your buildings are small and simple) but it will involve identifying your risk of fire, identify people at risk against the risk of fire, and if one considers the risk is too great, how you reduce risk and maintain an acceptable level. The guides offer advice on how to do it.
You can also call your local fire and rescue services who will advise you of your position, but will not make a risk assessment for you.
You can also use a fire safety consultant, to conduct a fire risk assessment for you.
if you do not use someone you do not need to make one. What is the point to read it. When I sold my restaurant business I had to do one for sale. I did that on a piece of paper a list of outlets, fire extinguishers what equipment to catch fire and it was.
This was accepted by prosecutors buyers.
Nothing to fear.
