How do I connect a JVC digital camcorder to the computera Can I put videos on the computer for editinga I use a JVC digital video camera for a project and need to know how to get the videos on the computer. I also need to change them, preferably with Windows Movie Maker because it is what I have. The camera uses MiniDV. So, do you know whether or not it is possiblea
Your computer must be equipped with a firewire port. USB is used only to transfer photos from memory card (perhaps for USB streaming - most camcorders can not do). Laptops generally use PCMCIA or ExpressCard slot; desktops use PCI slots. Firewire, i.LINK, IEEE1394 and DV are all the same.
USB does not work. Even if by some miracle you manage to run USB streaming, video quality will not be transferred to DV (or HDV, if your camcorder has this feature). USB-firewire converter / adapter / cable things do not work.
Three alternatives:
1) Get another computer that has a firewire port.
2) Get an external hard drive and borrow a computer with a firewire port. Save the imported video on the external drive, disconnect and then connect to your computer.
3) Get a "bridge analog / digital which connects via a USB port. Pinnacle Dazzle makes. The video quality is reduced - but not as bad as the USB streaming.
Since you do not tell us what computer, that's about as much help as possible.
OMG THIS IS SOO WEIRD I just asked the question exactly PETACTLY OTHER SAME DAY !!!!!!
