Laundry Room Shelving

Posted on October 28, 2010.
Laundry Room ShelvingI need help hanging a shelf in my laundry rooma

I'm certainly not a "practice-wife" and I'm putting a shelf in my laundry room by myself. I bought a stud finder with A / C detection. The shelf is very heavy and is held by 5 screws on the main bar. Now, whenever I use the stud finder to locate studs as he screams that there son also live there. I know nothing about how these rooms are built. The son go all the way down or how is it implementeda I really have no idea what I do .. but I'll try it (I even have a drill!)

Paul, Kevin and Hyper have any good advice to read all .. I have a suspicion I use to help me do the same thing as you .. Hang a "cleat" to the level you want the bottom of the shelf. It is after you've found 2 blocks where you need it. A tab is just a 2x4 or 1x2 pc of wood or anything else. You can nail or screw that. Level it when you do. In this way, hooking the board, you can rest on top of there and w / the help of a friend, you can maintain it and fix it too w / o struggling as much.
To also help find a stud in the wall of your installation if you have either a switch or an output (output is a better guide) The stud is usually on the left, but not always, then cover and take a look at where the pin and it is most often centers on the 16 inch. GL

When they put in electric service, it is generally across the vertical walls where the switches and sockets are. If the electricity service is managed in the attic, switches and jacks are fed by drops down from there. If it is from under the house, they come from under the foundation. They also run alongside the posts. So if you put a screw in the middle of a vertical, you're going to run the wiring.

You'll need a level too, as a 2 foot long. From the bottom of where your seat main bar to draw a line some light on both sides so you can line up from left to right. Hit the pad in the middle and you should be ok. You can check the location of studs from the left, then right twice each. That's how you check your location where you want to be. Then, slowly run your screws with the drill and you'll need a little attachment screws to put in your fiscal year so it is easier. Your screw should be about 2 1 / 2 inches minimum time to hold everything securely.
a pair of hands is worth it!
Hope this helps

In most cases, the son pass vertically into the space between the posts, then you should not be at risk of hitting them with the drilling or screws. There is, in some cases, that son could be placed horizontally from an outlet to another outlet or switch, but these tracks are generally well done it at the exit, not where people generally drive nails or screws for pictures of shelves.

Just make sure when you're driving the screw, none of them begin to turn to one side or the other as they go This could indicate that you missed the center of the stud enough that screw is popping on one side - in this case, there is a risk that the screw could pierce the wiring, and by chance you find yourself with a short, or worse, an electrified plate.

When hanging REALLY heavy object on the studs, I want to push a few holes on each side of where I think the stud is, so I could probe with a slightly bent wire or paper clip to find the edges of the stud sharper focus.
